Hi, I am Hessie Olivier, founder of FitsU and a warm welcome to our website. 

 

I grew up on a farm outside Clanwilliam, a small citrus and Rooibos agricultural town, on the west coast of South Africa.  Needless to say, fashion is not high on the priority list of this agricultural town, but it was for me.

 

From a very young age I realized that I was different - different in the sense that I didn’t naturally follow trends but rather experimented with different looks by combining my few essential garments and accessories.  Growing up on a farm 300km from Cape Town left my mum with no option but to hand sew all her children’s clothes. Mum tried her outmost best to fulfil each child's needs but could never fix up something that fits me because I always wanted it shorter, lower, wider, brighter or more fitted.  But my love for creating beautiful things came from mum's creativeness to try and please her youngest daughter.

 

I graduated from Elizabeth Galloway fashion academy in 2000 and joint up with a friend, designing and creating the most beautiful garments.  In 2003 I decided that I need to spread my wings and go to London to pursue my love for fashion.  I found an amazing job at a high-street supply company and worked closely with our customers whereof Kate Moss for Topshop, Topshop, Warehouse, River Island, Oasis, Miss Selfridge, Monsoon, ASOS to name but a few.  By the end of 2011 I decided that I need to bring my knowledge and experience back to my beloved country of South Africa and accepted a job at a swimwear and underwear manufacturing company in Durban.  

 

It’s here in Durban that I realized that I want to bring design, style, fit and comfort all together to create the perfect garment.  As mum could not get it right when I was young, I have made it my life’s mission to get the design, style and fit just perfect, by starting my own fashion line.  That's when FitsU was born. Purely designed for perfection to fit you.
